Qatar’s FIFA World Cup Selection is both amusing and deterring because of the number of reasons which surpassed the nations which were more deserving, high-graded, and praiseworthy.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is organized to be the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's association football championship contested by the national teams of FIFA.

It is arranged in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022. The World cup is the first time held in the Arab world and also the first in Muslim countries.

Due to Qatar's intense summer ambiance, this World Cup will be held from late-November to mid-December.

There is an unsolved conundrum in selecting Qatar by FIFA organizers and many controversies are emerging related to political and social conditions of Qatar.

The Bidding process of FIFA:

The bidding procedure to host the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups began in January 2009, Lastly, there were five bids for the 2022 FIFA World Cup: Australia, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, and the United States.

The 22 member FIFA Executive Committee congregate in Zürich on 2 December 2010 to vote to select the hosts of both tournaments.

The selection to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was graded as "high operational risk", generated criticism from media commentators.

The selection was strange and doubtful because Qatar is the smallest nation by area ever to have been awarded a FIFA World Cup, the next smallest area was Switzerland, host of the 1954 FIFA World Cup and was more than three times as large as Qatar and only needed to host 16 teams instead of the current 32.

Stadiums Planned were deducted:

According to the banking investment, Bank of America claimed that the organizers in Qatar have requested FIFA to approve a smaller number of stadiums due to the growing costs.

According to, Qatar wishes to cut the number of venues to 8 or 9 from the twelve originally planned.

“The requirement was of minimum eight and a maximum of 12 stadiums. We are currently working on furnishing our first five stadiums.” the technical director of the Qatar World Cup organizing committee Yasir Al Jamal said.

FIFA Schedule Date & Time:

The FIFA match was confirmed by FIFA on 15 July 2020. The opening match, in Qatar, will be played on 21 November 2022, 13:00 local time (UTC+3), at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Deteriorating Conditions of Workers:

The warning came after a Guardian investigation revealed that 44 Nepalese workers died from 4 June-8 August, about half from heart failure or workplace accidents. Workers described forced labor in 50C heat, employers who retain salaries for several months, and passports making it impossible for them to leave and being denied free drinking water.

The investigation found endemic diseases among workers living in overcrowded and insanitary conditions and hunger has been reported.

The Indian ambassador in Qatar claimed that 82 Indian workers died in the five months and 1,460 complained to the embassy about labor conditions and consular problems and more than 700 Indian workers died in Qatar between 2010 and 2012.

Other Concerns:

Hassan Abdulla al Thawadi, chief executive of the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid, claimed that the Muslim state would also permit alcohol consumption during the event, however, drinking in public is not allowed as Qatar's legal system is based on Sharia.

In May 2014, Sepp Blatter, FIFA President at the time of selection of FIFA 2015, but later banned for illegal payments, remarked that awarding the World Cup to Qatar was a "mistake" because of the extreme heat.

Bidding Corruption Allegations:

Qatar has faced strong criticism including for its human rights record and use of migrant workers to construct new stadiums. Qatari officials have defended the country's record on both issues.

A statement from FIFA stated that " supports all investigations into alleged acts of criminal wrongdoing either domestic or international football competitions and will continue to provide full cooperation to law enforcement officials investigating such matters"

Five of FIFA's six pivotal sponsors - Sony, Adidas, Visa, Hyundai, and Coca-Cola, have called upon FIFA to investigate the claims.

In 2015, FIFA corruption case, Swiss officials were operating under information from the United States Department of Justice, arrested many senior FIFA officials in Zurich, Switzerland. They also abducted the physical and electronic records from FIFA's main headquarters. The arrests pursued in the United States where several FIFA officers were arrested and FIFA buildings raided. The arrests were contemplated by the information of at least a $150 million (USD) corruption and bribery scandal.

FIFA 2022 World Cup venue in Qatar built by L&T:

Union Minister for External Affairs, also India's ambassador in Qatar - Deepak Mittal visited the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium which is a 2022 FIFA World Cup venue built by Indian construction giant Larsen & Toubro.

"India & Qatar have endured a close relationship for centuries, through trade, culture, and people-to-people ties, and the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, built by Larsen & Toubro, is a symbol of shared relationship in history," Al Thawadi said.

In Conclusion,

Though the controversies are going on for Qatar; however, exploring the 2022 FIFA world cup would be thrilling & exciting.‌
